Renewing an Undamaged 10-Year Passport
Most adult U.S. passport can be renewed by mail without the personal appearance of the applicant at the Consular Section. You can take advantage of these streamlined procedures if all of the following conditions apply to your passport:
- It is undamaged and can be submitted with your application.
- It was issued when you were age 16 or older.
- It was issued within the last 15 years.
- It was issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change.

If your passport was issued with less than 10 years' validity or if it was issued more than 15 years ago, you must renew it by following these instructions. If you cannot submit your passport because it was lost or stolen, you must apply for a new passport by following these instructions.
