Ramallah middle school students participating in the U.S. State Department’s English Access Microscholarship Program (ACCESS) program will perform a Ramadan-themed play on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Al Ashtar Theater in Ramallah. The play, written by ACCESS students, depicts various Ramadan traditions and will be performed in English before an audience of Palestinian students.
The 30-minute production will be directed by local alumni of the U.S. State Department’s Youth and Exchange Study Program (YES) and sponsored by the U.S. Consulate Jerusalem.
Tuesday’s production will be videotaped and shared with American middle school students at the Forest Hills Middle School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Once the American students have viewed the play, they will participate in a digital video conference with ACCESS students in Ramallah to discuss Ramadan traditions and engage in a question and answer session about the Ramadan holiday.

Location: Al Ashtar Theater, Ramallah
The U.S. State Department's ACCESS program empowers non-elite 14 to 18 year-olds in predominantly Muslim communities around the world to study English. Since its inception, U.S. embassies have selected English teaching schools in 44 countries to enroll approximately 10,000 students in ACCESS. In addition to English, the Program provides an American-style classroom experience using U.S. materials and emphasizing active learning.
