U.S. Consulate and Al-Quds University Celebrate Earth Day

The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem, in cooperation with Al-Quds University, launched a tree planting and clean-up campaign with volunteers from the Consulate and university staff and students. The clean-up campaign included the university campus in Beit Hanina and the surrounding neighborhood.

The event was a U.S. Consulate General activity marking Earth Day, which is an annual celebration of the environment and a time to assess the work still needed to protect the natural gifts of the planet. “Earth Day is observed around the world, although nowhere is it a national holiday. In the United States, it affirms that environmental awareness is part of the country's consciousness and that the idea of protecting the environment - once the province of a few conservationists - has moved from the extreme to the mainstream of American thought.”

Approximately 50 Consulate and university staff and students took part in the event that reflected a spirit of cooperation to keep the surrounding environment green and clean.
