America House
America House opened its doors to the public in June 2010 in commemoration of the one year anniversary of President Obama's speech in Cairo in 2009. The mission of America House is to encourage a dialogue between the United States and Jerusalemites in order to foster mutual understanding and emphasize shared values. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem, America House is an outreach facility to residents of Jerusalem, offering cultural events, a library of books and DVDs, and grant opportunities to local organizations.
Located on Al-Zahra Street overlooking Rockefeller Park, America House is a location where residents of Jerusalem can browse a wide selection of books on U.S. history, culture, and society, as well as English language books and American magazines. It also serves as a place where Jerusalemites can share their stories, experiences, and opinions through a variety of ongoing cultural events.
America House shares its location with the non-governmental organization America-MidEast Educational Training Services, Inc (AMIDEAST) which provides interested students with testing services such as SAT and TOEFL as well as specific information about the many options for studying in the United States, including U.S. Government scholarship opportunities.
There are four permanent staff dedicated to the operation of America House and to increasing cooperation with local institutions and organizations. The America House grants program offers grants of up to $10,000 for Jerusalem-focused projects and programs.
Hours of operation: America House is open Sunday-Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
