Donation of American Books to Beit Jala High School
The Consulate gifted 230 titles to the
Beit Jala School for Girls on September 22, infusing its modest library with American classic novels, Scholastic titles, educational and scientific books, Arab Civitas, and encyclopedias for young readers. The Mayor of Beit Jala warmly thanked the Consulate for its generous donation, and acknowledged the
U.S. government’s support to the community of Beit Jala in a ceremony attended by representatives from the Palestinian Authority Ministries of Culture and Education and the school principal. A few of the students described to gathered officials, what they had already learned from the books, delivered only two days earlier. Speaking in English and in Arabic, several girls who had chosen scientific titles explained how their new knowledge of hydroelectric systems and the animal kingdom would help them in their studies. One girl extolled the teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr., while another praised an Ernest Hemingway novel.
