U.S. Distributes Insulin to West Bank Hospitals and Clinics

In response to an insulin shortage in the West Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding insulin deliveries to 37 Palestinian health care facilities. The distribution of $160,000 worth of insulin, was announced by CG Wallace to the Palestinian press at a CARE warehouse in Ramallah.

The American-donated insulin covers an estimated two-month supply with deliveries begun through Care International on April 21.  A total distribution of 26,543 vials will be distributed.

After a tour of the warehouse supplies with the USAID Deputy Director, the Consul General reminded the media in his remarks of the ongoing commitment of the American people to support initiatives in the areas of education, health, agriculture and private sector development.  The CG also conducted two interviews with local television.

The insulin delivery is part of USAID's $30 million Emergency Medical Assistance Program, which responds to urgent humanitarian needs in the West Bank and Gaza.

Since 1993, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have received more than $1.7 billion in U.S. economic assistance via USAID projects to combat poverty, improve health and education, create jobs and promote good governance.
