U.S. Distributes Insulin to West Bank Hospitals and Clinics
May 22, 2007
In response to an insulin shortage in the West Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding insulin deliveries in the amount of $160,000 to 37 Palestinian health care facilities. The distribution was announced by Consul General Jacob Wallace, as he and USAID Deputy Director David Harden toured the Ramallah warehouse of the humanitarian organization CARE International on May 22, 2007. Insulin distribution began on April 21, 2007.
The deliveries are part of USAID's $30 million Emergency Medical Assistance Program which responds to urgent humanitarian needs in the West Bank and Gaza. Since 1993, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have received more than $1.7 billion in U.S. economic assistance via USAID projects to combat poverty, improve health and education, create jobs and promote good governance.
