US Consulate and Business Women’s Forum Inspire Young Palestinian Women To Dream Big for the Future

Two hundred Palestinian young women imagined their possible futures at a career day fair organized by the Business Women’s Forum with the support of the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem.  The students came from local public and private high schools to visit the many booths at which sat professional women from the business, law, banking, engineering, media, art and government service fields.  The students questioned these successful Palestinian women about which schools and courses to choose, how to develop job-specific skills, how to write a CV and how to balance work and family responsibilities.  For their part, the female professionals enjoyed serving as role models and meeting the next generation of Palestinian professional women.

Stacy Barrios, Cultural Affairs Officer at the U.S Consulate General, who helped staff a booth of female diplomats commented that “The enthusiasm and energy of these young women is infectious.  We are proud to be part of this effort to channel their talents into fields that will build a better future for all Palestinians.”  Echoing this optimism, Manal Zreig President of the Business Women’s Forum wondered, “Who knows who we might have here today?  Perhaps we have a future CEO of a Palestinian business or a future Prime Minister?  If we have inspired girls to believe in their dreams and have shown them through our examples that those dreams can become reality, then this event has accomplished its goal.”

The event was held at Villa Vache in Ramallah and hosted students from Al-Bireh Girls High School, Al-Mustaqbal School and the Lutheran School.  This is the second career day the U.S. Consulate General has sponsored, and will be followed this summer with a third.
