Message from United States Consul General Jake Walles to the Palestinian people on the Occasion of Eid al Fitr.

On this joyous occasion of the Eid al-Fitr, I extend my warm personal greetings to the Palestinian people.

Today Muslims from around the world mark the end of the holy month of fasting.  As the representative of the United States, I am honored to have been welcomed into the homes and lives of so many Palestinians to share in Ramadan traditions.  I was also pleased that, once again, the U.S. Consulate hosted activities throughout the month for Palestinian audiences, as a sign of American respect for the traditions and values that are integral to the observation of Ramadan.  A highlight among these activities was a series of concerts by the American band, Native Deen, who celebrate the teachings and tenants of Islam through American-style percussion music.

The relationship between the United States and the Palestinian people is special and important.  The United States is determined to realize the vision articulated by President Bush of a Palestinian state, living in peace with its neighbors.

During this holy month, we have recalled the important values of reflection, humility and charity that are integral to the observation of Ramadan, and the important role these values play in relations between peoples.  I want to again affirm the strong friendship the American government and people have for the Palestinian people, and to particularly you for your hospitality throughout my tenure as Consul General.

With best wishes from the American people.
