Emergency Passport Services
In cases where you are traveling and your passport has been lost or stolen, you should contact the Consulate as soon as possible, either by following this link to Contact Information or by coming in person to the Consulate during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8AM to 430PM, to report the loss. You can always reach the American Citizen Services unit of the Consulate at JerusalemACS@state.gov.
Emergency Situations
Emergency passports are only issued under exceptional circumstances in the event of imminent travel, to facilitate a U.S. citizen’s return to the United States. Please note that failure to keep your passport up-to-date does not constitute an emergency and will not qualify you for an emergency passport. Please note that weddings and other family events do not constitute emergencies for the purposes of issuing an emergency passport.
Tthe Consulate will determine, based on your situation, whether it will be necessary to allow you to apply immediately for a limited-validity passport or a regular, full-validity passport, or require you to make an appointment. If you are claiming you have a flight you must catch, you must bring a confirmed copy of your flight itinerary along with proof the travel has been paid for.
Applying for an Emergency Passport
Instructions for applying for an emergency passport are the same as replacing a lost or stolen passport. Follow this link to Replacing a Lost or Stolen Passport for details on how to apply.
Validity
Emergency passports are valid for a maximum of one year.
Fees
The fee for an emergency passport is $100. You can exchange the emergency passport for a new, full-validity passport at no charge if you apply before the emergency passport expires.
To exchange an emergency passport for a full-validity passport, you need to make an appointment. Please follow this link to Scheduling an Appointment.
