Fulbright Science and Technology Scholarship Doctoral Student Program

The Fulbright Science and Technology Scholarship is a highly selective program for PhD study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, for engineering. Approximately 45 awards will be competed worldwide for candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in scientific fields. Scholarships awards applicants who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership qualities, and a commitment to improving cross-cultural relations through international exchange.

The fellowship provides the following benefits: Activities, tuition and fees; a monthly stipend for up to 36 months; books and equipment, research and professional conference allowances; J-1 visa sponsorship; round-trip airfare from fellow's home city to the host institution in the United States; health and accident coverage as per U.S. Government guidelines; and specially tailored enrichment activities. After three years, the host U.S. university will be expected to cover the remaining expenses toward completion of the Ph.D.

Eligible fields include: aeronautics and aeronautics and stronomic/aeronautical engineering, agriculture (theoretical or research-based focus only), astronomy/planetary sciences, biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, computer sciences/engineering, energy, engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum), environmental science/engineering, geology/earth and atmospheric sciences, information sciences and systems (engineering focus only), materials science/engineering, mathematics, neuroscience, oceanography, public health (theoretical research focus only), physics, agriculture (theoretical and research-based study in such areas as entomology, plant biology, plant pathology, and soil science). Application requirements

  • Applicants must be Palestinians resident in the West Bank, East Jerusalem or Gaza; 
  • Proficiency in English with a recent TOEFL score (or equivalent) of 580 or higher; 
  • A GRE General Exam quantitative score of at least 700.

A complete application includes:

  • a clearly written research objective
  • a professional resume or curriculum vitae

Three letters of reference (submitted electronically and attached to the online application or official paper copies)

Official academic transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended (scanned and attached to the online application; official paper transcripts should also be provided at a later date)

Score reports (as soon as available).

  • TOEFL or IELTS or other English language proficiency exam
  • General GRE exam (preferably prior to August 20, 2010). Please visit Amideast office in El Bireh or Gaza City for information on exams and dates. 
  • GRE Subject Exam score reports if applying for the following computer science; mathematics; and physics. (GRE Subject Exams are administered in October and November of each year) fields: biology; biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology; chemistry;
