Consulate Celebrates Graduation of West Bank English Class Students
The Consulate joined 225 students in Ramallah and Bethlehem at annual graduation ceremonies in early July, celebrating the students' successful completion of the 2-year English-language enrichment program, ACCESS, which is funded by the U.S. State Department. The students -- actually representing Access classes in Ramallah, Jericho, Bethlehem and Hebron --proudly showcased their accomplishments to gathered friends and family: Students in Bethlehem performed several short plays dealing with difficult social issues such as the right of children, especially girls to education and the problem of domestic abuse. The Ramallah group enthusiastically sang an original song that they had written in English. Consul General Jake Walles sent a personalized video message to the students that emphasized his hope that they will become leaders of their communities and their future state.
