Consul General observes a moment of silence. |
U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem employees and their families gathered in the Consulate General's garden to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Consul General Jacob Walles read a Presidential Proclamation designating September 11 of each year as a national U.S. holiday to be named “Patriot Day.” The Consulate General community also observed a solemn moment of silence at 3:46 p.m. to honor the victims of the attacks to coincide with a national moment of silence in the United States at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time, the moment the first plane struck the World Trade Center's north tower. The U.S. Marine Corps Security Detachment provided a color guard in honor of the ceremony.
