Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)

Legal and Business Fellowship Program

The U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative is pleased to announce that the Legal and Business Fellowship Program (LBFP) is accepting applications for 2008. The five-month program is designed to provide women in business or law with advanced study and the opportunity to apply their professional skills in fellowships at large U.S. companies and top law firms. America-Mideast Educational and Training Services, Inc. (AMIDEAST) administers this program.

Participants will attend a four-week MBA or LLM-level executive education program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School or the School of Law.  They will then work in a large U.S. company or top tier law firm for a four-month fellowship in one of several key cities in the United States.

Participation in the program includes:

J1 visa and SEVIS support, international travel, academic fees, accident and sickness insurance, housing (to be shared with another female participant), daily allowance, and alumni networking opportunities after successful program completion.

Eligibility:

LBFP grants awards are merit-based and candidates are considered without respect to race, color, religion, or national origin. Women from under-served and under-represented communities are strongly encouraged to apply. Application to the LBFP is open to anyone who:

  • Is female and between the ages of 22 and 32; who is a citizen, permanent resident, or national; and qualified to hold a valid passport.
  • Is able to receive and maintain a U.S. J-1 visa
  • Is a recipient of 1) an undergraduate degree or graduate degree in business or law from a recognized academic institution that is not in the U.S. or 2) an undergraduate degree in any field with at least three years experience working in the private sector (business or law)
  • Has a strong academic standing and is proficient in written and spoken English with a minimum Institutional TOEFL (ITP) score of 550 that is less than two years old
  • Demonstrates maturity, flexibility and leadership potential
  • Is able to attend the program in the U.S. from March 30 to August 28, 2008
