Pollution

By Omar Muhtaseb from Ramallah

The air is polluted. The earth is poisoned. Water is unsafe to drink and rubbish is burying the civilizations that produce it. Our life is unsafe anymore. All that was caused by the world’s developing. This is happening not only in advanced societies, but among the developing nations as they become industries. We’re willing to sacrifice everything: clean air, pure water, healthy food and the future for our children. Pollution is, in a sense being exported.

Air pollution is one of the serious problems; we face it especially in the last century. Factories and cars produce a lot of gases that pollute the atmosphere. Another problem is water pollution. In these days we hardly can find fresh water to use. All those were caused by man- by his greed and his modern way of life.

Isn’t it time to ask ourselves where we’re going and why? It reminds me a story about pilot who told his passengers over the loudspeaker: I have some good news and some bad. We are making rapid progress at 530 miles per hour, but we’re lost and I don’t know where we are going. It’s the time to ask ourselves what we should do.
