Passports

Passport Renewal for an Adult (over 26)

To facilitate access to the Consular Section, applicants for any service, including American citizens, are requested to carry only those items that are absolutely necessary.  No weapons are permitted at any time.  Electronic items must be left at the reception desk, and this is a time-consuming process that will delay your entry.  Metallic items will cause delays during screening, and all bags must be x-rayed.

If you have had a 10-year passport in the past, it is possible to renew your passport by mail as well as by appointment, as long as it has been expired fewer than 15 years.

To renew by mail, please read the below information and submit the following to American Citizen Services, PO Box 290 Jerusalem 91002:

  1. A DS-82 (application for a U.S passport by mail);
  2. Two passport photos (5cm x 5cm, white background),
  3. Your most recent passport,
  4. A registered, a self-addressed, stamped envelope and;
  5. A bank-certified check for US $75. (Only U.S. currency-denominated checks can be accepted.)  Please note that neither cash nor personal checks are accepted.  The bank-certified checks must be made payable to "U.S. Consulate General, Jerusalem".

Include on your application a current phone number where you can be reached in case we have a question about your application. Applicants who have not had a 10-year passport in the past or whose passport has been expired for 15 years or more cannot apply by mail. Please visit first passport  to find out how to apply for a passport in these cases.

If you need to renew your passport but you do not want to apply by mail, please read the following information and click on the link at the bottom of this page to schedule an appointment.

Please note: If any of the required items are missing we will NOT be able to process your passport application.  Consular officers have the right to ask for additional documents if they deem it necessary to establish the applicant’s citizenship and/or identity.

PASSPORT RETURN:  If you apply to renew your passport by mail, you may still supply a registered, self-addressed, stamped envelope (for registered mail), though we will be phasing out the use of registered mail for mail-in applications in 2009.  If you do supply a registered-mail envelope, please make sure it is large enough to fit the passport, since often we receive envelopes that are too small.  Please also note, if you do not provide an envelope, the application will be returned.

If you apply to renew in person, please note that the Consulate no longer accepts self-addressed, stamped registered mail envelopes for in-person applications.   When you come to the Consulate for your appointment, you will need to complete an envelope from one of two contracted courier services.  The courier service will either deliver your documents directly to your chosen address, or call you for pick-up at one of their centers.
