Connecting with American Historian to Support American Studies at Hebron University
Continuing its American Studies digital videoconference lecture series, the Consulate General connected American Historian Brooks Simpson, Professor of History and Humanities at Arizona State University to Palestinian students and professors at Hebron University for a lecture on the American civil war. The May 6 lecture and discussion focused on the war and its lasting effects on U.S. society, government and politics. The President of Hebron University visited the lecture to express his support for the American Studies program and cooperative events with the Consulate. The audience of 50 students asked Professor Simpson about the historical and social progression that led from the Civil War to the election of the first African-American president. The program highlighted how the U.S. emerged from a divisive conflict to build an independent, multi-cultural nation.
