English Language Specialist Enhances the Teaching Skills of Palestinian English Language Instructors
The U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem sponsored the visit of American English Language Specialist Dr. Alan Klein, who conducted a four-day intensive English language training course with English-language teachers from the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Education. Twenty teachers from public schools in Bethlehem and Hebron attended the program in Bethlehem Ministry offices for training sessions based on ECA’s “Shaping the Way We Teach English” methodology series. Dr. Klein focused on training topics requested by the Ministry of Education: grammar and vocabulary instruction, and assisting struggling students to improve their learning retention. Teachers also exchanged teaching methods and experiences, not only with Mr. Klein, but also among themselves. The Cultural Affairs Officer, Cynthia Harvey, represented Consulate General Jerusalem at the workshop’s official opening, thanking both Mr. Klein and the Ministry for their cooperation in coordinating this important program. Each teacher was presented with their own set of Shaping the Way We Teach materials, including the English edition of the language-learning journal FORUM.
