U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem Boosts Skills of Palestinian English Language Teachers with Training by American English Language Specialist

From July 26-29, Dr. Alan Klein conducted an intensive English language training course with Palestinian Ministry of Education English language teachers. Sixteen teachers from public schools in the Jerusalem suburb of Al-Ram attended the program in Al-Ram Ministry of Education offices for training sessions based on the ECA bureau’s “Shaping the Way We Teach English” methodology series. Dr. Klein focused on the training topics requested from the Ministry of Education: teaching grammar, helping struggling students learn how to learn and teaching vocabulary. The training session also gave the teachers the opportunity to exchange teaching ideas and experiences, not only with an American expert, but also with each other. Cultural Affairs Officer, Cynthia Harvey, represented the Consulate at the official closing event of the workshop, thanking both Dr. Klein and the Ministry of Education for their cooperation on putting together this important program. She presented certificates to each of the participants, sets of Shaping the Way We Teach materials, together with an edition of the English-language journal FORUM for each teacher. The teachers and the Ministry of Education representatives expressed their appreciation to the U.S. Government for the opportunity to enhance the teachers’ professional skills and receive training from an American expert in their field.
