Rhythm, Dance and Storytelling Come Together at USG-funded Music Appreciation Summer Camp

Cultural Affairs Officer Cynthia Harvey attended the exhibition day of a USG-funded summer camp at Sabreen Association for Artistic Development. Sabreen’s summer Music Appreciation Program promoted cultural understanding and appreciation, and encouraged expression among youths through storytelling, music and dance. Camp participants experimented with instruments and musical styles from around the world, including choir, Dabkke training, percussion training and hip-hop. The camp concluded on August 12 with a musical performance where camp participants sang a variety of songs. Hip-hop artists and Dabke performers from nearby Shu'fat refugee camp were invited to join the camp-goers onstage for an interactive performance that included the only all-girls Palestinian hip-hop group in the region.
