U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem Hosts a Specialist in Civic Engagement and Political Mobilization
The U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem hosted David Smith, founder and Executive Director of Mobilize.org, for a three-day program on the use of new social networking technologies for mobilizing groups and promoting dialogue. Mr. Smith has an extensive background in civic engagement, political participation, and youth mobilization. He conducted workshops and lectures for audiences that included NGO leaders, government officials from the Palestinian Authority responsible for public affairs and mass communication, and youth interested in effective engagement about the issues that concern their society. For each of his speaking engagements, Mr. Smith went through his “10 Steps to Mobilize,” leading hands-on exercises that drew from the participants’ past experiences. The audience expressed their renewed enthusiasm at taking on the issues affecting their daily lives.
