MEPI Grant Funds Rule of Law Training for Palestinian Youth Communities

U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem and PANORAMA (the Palestinian Center for the Dissemination of Democracy and Community Development) launched a new MEPI project entitled “Youth Taking Action” on October 15th in Ramallah. The project aims to build the capacity of young community leaders and create a pool of responsive citizens from Palestinian universities in West Bank. Through this project, Panorama will work to engage and foster youth involvement in the Palestinian decision-making process and provide a platform of debate on democratization, rule of law, and civil peace. Cultural Affairs Specialist Suzan Nammari delivered opening remarks attended by more than 80 young leaders from the West Bank. Colonel Abdel Jaber Burqan, Director of the Drug Prevention Unit in the West Bank, gave a lecture on the rule of law and the separation of authority that the Palestinian Authority is trying to achieve in the West Bank, the new vision for Palestinian security, and the importance of networking between governmental and non-governmental players. The session was followed by a two-day training workshop on community conflict resolution and strategic tools for developing advocacy plans.
