English Language Specialist Inspires Educators to Shape the Way They Teach

U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem sponsored the visit of English Language Specialist Dr. Leslie Opp-Beckman to work with supervisors and instructors from the Ministry of Education on creating and utilizing effective strategies for teaching English as a second language. Dr. Opp-Beckman, a professor of linguistics at the University of Oregon, used the Shaping the Way We Teach program to bring a new teaching methodology that created a positive and enriching learning experience for language learners. Deputy Minister of Education, Basri Saleh, and Public Affairs Officer Frank Finver participated in the opening ceremony of a special three-day course for the Ministry’s English Language Supervisors. Additionally, Dr. Opp-Beckman traveled to Hebron University for a two-day teaching session with thirty students from the university’s Applied Linguistics master’s degree program.
