Celebrating Achievements of Camp Discovery Jenin on Exhibition Day
The U.S. Consulate General visited the final exhibition day for the USG-funded Camp Discovery at Jenin Refugee Camp, where ninety young Palestinians put on an hour-long performance that included musical performances, personal testimonials and dramatic readings – all in English. An audience of approximately 200 friends and family of the camp participants attended the performances, which was followed by an exhibition of the participants’ science and art projects. Young girls told audience members about their future career aspirations -- becoming doctors, teachers, engineers, and scientists. These hopes and aspirations are attributed to the involvement of the U.S. government, for nurturing the dreams of young people for a future of possibilities. Cultural Affairs Officer, Cynthia Harvey, addressed the audience in Arabic and thanked local families and partners for their support for this program. Camp Discovery Jenin is part of a collective of five Camp Discovery programs – including Ramallah, Nablus, Hebron and Gaza City - made possible with special funding from State Department. There are more than 450 Palestinians (ages 8-14) participating in Camp Discovery, all of them from refugee camps and disadvantaged communities in the West Bank and Gaza.
