2007 Programs and Events
Creating writing and story-telling was just “A Wrinkle in Time” for teenagers at the American Corner in Jericho
July 2007
For five busy July days, 25 local teenagers participated in an intensive workshop on creative writing and story telling based on the 1960 children's fantasy novel by American author, Madeleine L'Engle. The program was hosted by the American Corner in Jericho which provided the participants with U.S. government funded copies of the book in Arabic translation. Workshop sessions included practice in creative writing and an analysis exercise comparing the American book to the local folktale, “The Hunter and the Shepherd”. The workshop concluded with presentations of the teenager’s original works created during the workshop and an enthusiastic call for a follow up program. It seems that the program was indeed, but “a wrinkle in time” leaving the teenagers eager to share their creative writing and story-telling talents with family and friends!
