U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem Families Donate Books for New Library at Nablus RISOL Youth Center

Press Release
April 02, 2009
Jerusalem

Representatives from the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem presented 800 books and 80 magazines to the Nablus RISOL youth center to establish a new library. The ceremony was attended by Jawad Abu Own, RISOL Educational Programs Officer in the West Bank, as well as other RISOL representatives, local dignitaries and community youth. As a result of the U.S. Consulate donation, the library now boasts well-stocked shelves with resources for the Nablus public.

Among the books donated by the U.S. Consulate community are children’s books, novels and literary works, textbooks, dictionaries, biographies, English-language learning materials, reference books, and a number of quality magazines. The U.S. Consulate General also donated an additional 200 American fiction and non-fiction classic books in Arabic translation.

At the donation ceremony on April 2, Consulate representative Jacqueline Deley presented the books to the gathered youth, remarking that, “The magical journeys that await you with the books in this new library will complement the magic of RISOL’s programs that allow you to reach around the world via the internet. The U.S. Consulate community is eager to support Palestinian youth and has donated thousands of books to Palestinian community centers and schools over the past two years. This donation is our sixth, following donations in Hebron, Salfit, Akraba, Bayt Jala, and Al Tur.”

Mr. Abu Own thanked the U.S. Consulate for its generosity and support for the youth of Nablus and invited the gathered students and community leaders to explore the new collection.

The Community-Based Learning Center on Sufian Street in Nablus was established by Relief International—Schools Online (RI-SOL) with funding from the U.S. State Department. RI-SOL is a non-governmental organization active in over 40 countries implementing programs that provide services to empower beneficiaries through emphasizing education, civic participation, online collaborative projects, and teacher exchanges.
