Ramallah – The Business Women Forum completed another successful year of its internship program with funding and support from the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem. On August 17, 2009, members of the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem and a large number of families and friends honored 50 university graduates in a ceremony to mark the completion of the Business Women Forum internship program. The program provided hands-on work experience, formal training, and workshops that focused on preparing the young women for success in the business world. The interns were placed with a number of prominent businesses, corporations, nongovernmental organizations and ministries, including Al-Quds Bank, Ernst & Young, the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Tourism, and Sharek Youth Forum. The interns held positions in business administration, public relations, marketing, and information technologies.
Speaking on behalf of the U.S. Consulate, Public Diplomacy Officer Esperanza M. Tilghman congratulated the interns on their achievements. Ms. Tilghman, addressing the audience in Arabic, said “Completing this internship is just one of the many accomplishments you will achieve as you become successful businesswomen and leaders in your communities.” Ms. Amal Daraghmeh-Masri, co-founder of the Business Women Forum and Ms. Do’a M. Wadi, Forum Chairwoman, discussed the importance of providing a professional network for young women, saying that the internship program gives these graduates the background and experience required to move forward in their careers.
This is the second year of the internship program. In its first year, also with the assistance of the U.S. Consulate General, 17 women were placed with several international companies and organizations, many of them finding immediate employment upon completing the internship.
