Gazan Alumni of US Consulate Jerusalem Fulbright Exchange Program Discuss Ramadan Celebrations with University Students
September 26, 2007
The American Corner in Gaza invited two professors from Al Azhar University to share their stories about celebrating Ramadan in the United States during their exchange years at at universities in Indiana and Illinois. The professors praised religious tolerance in America and the acceptance and respect they and their families experienced as Muslims during their stay. The 18 university students who attended the event on September 26 asked many questions and were surprised to learn that the professors were able to openly practice their faith and attend mosque prayers regularly. One professor commented, "the spirit of Islam is found in the people of America. They smile, they help, they feel with you while you are fasting. Do not take from the media everything they say against America. Islam urges us to support humanity and people in America are strong supporters of humanity and justice." The professors participated in the Fulbright senior scholar exchange program. For more information, please click here.
