American Ramadan Quiz Nights
As part of its extensive Ramadan celebrations, the Consulate sponsored two post-Iftar Ramadan “Quiz Night” events at a popular local gathering spot in East Jerusalem through a grant to PalVision, a local non-governmental organization that promotes leadership roles for youth. This Ramadan partnership with PalVision is in its fourth year. The quiz events attract over 100 members of the Palestinian community – including families and young adults, Muslims and Christians, and local community leaders, and honor a Palestinian tradition of families and friends gathering for games and activities after Iftar. The Consulate merged American culture into the events with a full round of American-themed questions and distinctly American prizes for the winning teams including American music CDs, American classics of literature translated into Arabic, baseball caps, and a baseball with a set of baseball mitts. A Consulate staff team, made up of American and local staff, competed with local teams in an evening full of laughter that highlighted Palestinian and American friendship.
