New Youth Center in Nablus Opens its Doors
February 21, 2008
Thanks to a U.S. State Department grant, the U.S. non-governmental organization Relief International--Schools OnLine (RISOL) opened a new Community Based Learning and Action Center in Nablus on February 21. Within the first week, 60 students had signed up to participate in the Center's activities, which focus on the use of the internet to develop civic education skills and connections with American students. The students are eager to use their passions, talents and skills to lead community campaigns throughout Nablus and enthusiastically brainstormed ideas they could implement, including a clean up campaign in the Old City, designing websites and posters to promote local events for children, and creating a historical map of the city to highlight its rich history. The Center, founded in partnership with the prominent An-Najah University, is based on RISOL's successful centers in other Palestinian cities founded under the U.S. State Department’s Global Connections Exchange Program.
