Immigrant Visas

Step 4 – Issuance, Refusal and Other Services

I. Issuance and Refusal

When you appear at the Consulate General on your initial appointment date, a consular employee will prepare your case for the Consular Officer’s review. If your documents meet the requirements of the law, an immigrant visa, valid for six months, will be issued and sent to you via ARAMEX (for residents of West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza) or SHAAL (for residents of West Jerusalem, West Bank Settlements and Israel).  You may also pick your visa up in person. If additional documents are required, you will be given a refusal letter listing what documents you are required to submit to conclude your case.

The letter instructs you to submit the documents either via ARAMEX, (for residents of the West Bank and East Jerusalem) or SHAAL (for residents of West Jerusalem). You may also leave these documents at the reception desk Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Upon reviewing the additional documents the consular officer will determine whether they are acceptable and whether additional documents are still required. If the documents are approved your immigrant visa will be issued and sent to you to the address you have given us via ARAMEX or SHAAL. If additional documents are required, a letter will be sent to you also via ARAMEX or SHAAL informing you of the required documents.

II. Other Services

Individuals who require assistance regarding lost/stolen, not received or expired Alien Registration Cards must request an appointment by e-mail at JerusalemIV@state.gov.  This service is done on Fridays.
