The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem is seeking two individuals for the position of HVAC Technician/Electrician Assistant in the General Services Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of office and residential buildings, receiving work orders and all general instructions from the General Services Office in the Management Section. Checks gas heaters and cooking gas; Performs maintenance, repair and installation of various electrical components, systems, and equipment. Repairs and installs commercial and residential appliances; Installs and repairs heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment. Incumbent should be familiar with all tools of the trade; Operates maintenance power equipment; Performs work that meets local and American codes and standards; Drives maintenance truck and performs other miscellaneous maintenance-related tasks as required. Incumbent serves as duty maintenance technician, responding to emergency maintenance calls on weekends and nights.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  • Completion of Secondary School and certification by host government as an HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) technician and electrician assistant is required.
  • Minimum two years of experience as HVAC technician and electrician assistant are required.
  • Level II (good working knowledge) of English and level IV (Fluency) in Hebrew or Arabic are required.
  • Must be able to help in other maintenance trades and crafts.
  • Must have Class “C” local driver’s license.

SELECTION PROCESS:

When equally qualified, Eligible Family Members and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • EFMs who currently hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of that appointment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
  • Candidates are subject to testing for language, computer or other position related skills.
