October 28, 2005
In light of the recent upturn in violence, which includes the October 26 suicide bombing at the Hadera market which killed 5 persons, the October 16 drive-by shootings in the West Bank which killed 3, Qassam rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted assassinations of Palestinian militant leaders, and ongoing IDF security operations in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the Department of State strongly urges U.S. citizens to carefully review their security posture, to defer unnecessary travel to the West Bank, and to avoid all travel to Gaza.
We take this opportunity to remind all Americans presently in or considering travel to Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip of the information contained in the current Travel Warning, which can be accessed at http://travel.state.gov. As the U.S. Government develops information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its consular information program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov.
