A protest march against last week's shooting at the Meraz Harav Yeshiva has been announced for Sunday, March 16, at 1700 hours (5 p.m.), beginning at the Haas Promenade (Tayelet) in Talpiyot and proceeding to Jabel Mukaber. There will be a large police presence, and there is a possibility of heightened tensions. U.S. Consulate staff has been advised to avoid the area during that time, and it is recommended that non-official American citizens also exercise caution and avoid unnecessary driving or walking in this area during the protest.
For the latest security information, Americans should regularly monitor the Department's web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays.)
